Environmental Policy

Reducing the Environmental Impact of Coffee

Since the establishment of Hutsul Coffee Factory in 2024, we have been dedicated to responsible environmental practices. We comply with all environmental legislation and welcome new legislation that genuinely reduces our impact.

Our commitment to becoming more sustainable grows with our business. We regularly evaluate the environmental impact of our products and services to improve our environmental performance continually. Our policy is based on the concept of reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Carbon-Neutral Shipping

We’re balancing the emissions generated from shipping. We purchase carbon offsets and neutralize the environmental impact of these emissions.
Hutsul Coffee Factory is actively working to reduce emissions. To achieve carbon-neutral shipping, we partner with accredited carbon offset providers. These providers support projects that mitigate the environmental impact of shipping your packages.

Paper and Cardboard

The roastery has made a pledge to minimize the use of paper as much as possible. All communication, including invoicing, is done electronically via email. Printed paper is avoided unless it is absolutely necessary, and we only include a small thermal printed packing slip with each order. We use 100% recycled wrapped paper and lightweight shipping boxes. We also try to reuse cardboard boxes whenever possible. Our coffee is vacuum-packed inside robust cardboard boxes, which we reuse to send out coffee and equipment instead of throwing them directly into the recycling bin. This practice helps us reduce waste and positively impact the environment.

Oxo-degradable coffee bags

We're proud to use Bak2earth oxo-degradable bags with zippers to package our coffee beans. Unlike standard plastic or foil bags, Bak2earth bags are made with a unique blend of 40-60% renewable wood pulp starch that makes them completely oxo-degradable. This means that they will break down into natural components over time, instead of polluting the environment.

Our bags are tested to meet the rigorous USA ASTM D-6868 and D-6400 standards, which confirm that the wood pulp starch-based portion will dissolve in a residential composting facility in about 180 days. The remaining 60-40% (by weight) of the packaging is made of PE fossil, but contains an additive that helps it break down over approximately twelve years.

When disposed of properly, Bak2earth bags are much easier to manage than standard Plastic PE bags, which can take hundreds of years to decompose. By choosing Bak2earth, we're making a conscious effort to reduce our environmental impact and provide our customers with a safe, eco-friendly option.
